Clark County Food Bank

ccfb2KMR wholeheartedly supports the Clark County Food Bank’s mission to alleviate hunger and its root causes. The food bank’s two-pronged approach to addresses community hunger includes providing emergency food to individuals and families in immediate need, as well as a strenuous effort to help people overcome the circumstances underlying long-term food insecurity.

Working with dozens of local partner agencies, the food bank distributes more than 3.9 million pounds of food a year. Children account for 39 percent of the recipients.

The food bank also offers nutrition and culinary education within Cooking Matters, a series of classes focused on helping clients learn how to shop for and prepare healthy, satisfying meals on a budget.

“Since taking the cooking classes I’ve lost 25 pounds, my blood pressure is down to a normal level and I’m eating lots of fruits and veggies,” said Kathleen, a grateful participant. “Through this class I tried spinach and cilantro [for the first time] and I liked them. I now only drink water and I walk regularly. I now have food dollars left at the end of the month.”
