KMR Group Foundation’s partnership with the Northwest Association for Blind Athletes includes support of the organization’s dragon boat teams, which regularly competes in Portland’s Rose Festival races.
The 2016 Lethally Blind team, which includes KMR director Karen Holterhoff, finished the two-day competition racing in a higher division than the team anticipated. The jump was made after a strong first day showing and exemplified the team’s cohesion.
KMR’s partnership with NWABA has allowed the organization to expand its programming for blind and visually impaired people in Washington, Oregon, Idaho and Montana. NWABA’s mission is to allow its athletes to experience the joy of sport and gain a sense of empowerment and independence.
NWABA allows the blind and visually impaired to experience a number of sporting activities, including track and field, goalball and biking.
