Bridging the Gap: KMR Group Foundation and FISH of Vancouver’s Mobile Food Pantry

KMR Group Foundation and FISH of Vancouver’s Mobile Food Pantry

At the heart of every community lies the simple yet profound need for food security. For many, accessing nutritious food is a daily challenge, especially for those unable to reach traditional food pantries. Recognizing this critical need, the KMR Group Foundation proudly supports the Mobile Food Pantry by FISH of Vancouver, an initiative designed to bring fresh, healthy food directly to individuals and families who need it most.

Addressing Accessibility with Compassion

FISH of Vancouver has long been a cornerstone of support for the community, serving over 4,000 families monthly. However, even with a bustling downtown pantry, there remained a pressing gap: accessibility. Not everyone can make the journey to 906 Harney Street. Senior citizens with mobility issues, individuals without reliable transportation, and families juggling multiple responsibilities often find it challenging to access traditional food resources.

The Power of Partnership

The success of the Mobile Food Pantry wouldn’t be possible without the dedicated support of the KMR Group Foundation. Through a transformative three-year grant, KMR funds a vital staff position dedicated solely to the mobile pantry’s operations. This role has shifted the program from a volunteer-dependent model to a sustainable, professional service, ensuring consistent, reliable food distribution.

More Than Just Food

While the Mobile Food Pantry distributes a variety of food items, fresh produce holds a special place. Executive Director of FISH, James Fitzgerald, notes that “the smiles on people’s faces when they see apples, potatoes, or even watermelons—it’s priceless.” Fresh fruits and vegetables, often expensive and out of reach for many, bring not just nourishment but a sense of dignity and joy to recipients.

Growing Needs, Growing Support

The demand for food assistance has surged. FISH now serves up to 200 families in a single day, with record numbers reaching 217 families. This growth underscores the importance of sustainable support systems. KMR’s contributions do more than fund operations; they fuel hope, stability, and community resilience.

A Shared Mission

For nearly two decades, the KMR Group Foundation has championed causes that promote equal access to essential resources, including food, healthcare, and education. Supporting FISH’s Mobile Food Pantry aligns seamlessly with KMR’s mission to combat food insecurity and uplift underserved communities.

Together, KMR and FISH are not just distributing food—they’re delivering hope, fostering connections, and ensuring that no one in Vancouver is left behind.
